Open Catalogue
To make the exhibition experience more inclusive, the KinderKunstLabor is piloting the format of the Open Catalogue. Instead of a fixed publication, a variety of individual pages with texts and images are available in the exhibition space and can be selected, combined, and bound into a personal catalogue. In this way, each visitor can create their own individual access to the exhibition’s content. The complete catalogue, including all pages, is also available as a Special Edition in the shop.
Museums and exhibition venues produce catalogues for sale alongside their exhibitions. Interested visitors can find detailed information about the exhibited works. For those who are unable to see the exhibition, catalogues provide an alternative way to engage with the content.
Nevertheless, catalogue texts are often addressed to specific groups and tend to engage others less, whether through language, language use, format, or themes. In order to be more inclusive, the KinderKunstLabor is experimenting with the open catalogue. To create a more inclusive approach, the KinderKunstLabor is experimenting with the concept of an open catalogue. Graphic designer Anja Lutz’s concept offers a diverse collection of texts and images as individual sheets: artwork descriptions in various languages, images, sketches, recipes, instructions, and blank pages for personal notes. These pages are displayed in the exhibition space. Materials for self-binding and additional resources can be found in specially designed, modular, fold-out catalogue tables. Additionally, high-quality ring binders are available for compiling the loose sheets. In this way, everyone can create and bind their own unique catalogue. In addition, the complete catalogue, including all sheets, is available as a special edition in the shop.
