On 23 September, the Association of the Deaf of Lower Austria invited visitors to the KinderKunstLabor for a special event. Workshops, a talk on sign language in the school system and a guided exhibition tour offered a range of insights into Austrian Sign Language (ÖGS) and the lived experiences of deaf people.

In the workshops, children and adults learned some basic signs and found out more about everyday life for deaf people. They explored questions such as: How do deaf people get up in the morning? Do they always need interpreters? And how can you experience music if you can’t hear?  

The programme also included a guided tour of our new exhibition, FINALLY it’s HAPPENING by Carola Dertnig, in Austrian Sign Language. The exhibition invites visitors to experience art through different senses, movement, touch and bodily perception.
