The Children's Government

2026 | Summer Project Week with Graziela Kunsch

What do places look like where children are truly heard? What could change in the city and the government district from children's perspectives? And what do art and architecture have to do with it?

Together with artist Graziela Kunsch, Sara Altindas, Vitalii Chornyi, Farbod Darma, Kian Padeganeh, Anita Porkari, Benita Porkari, Sadra Riazati, Vala Riazati, Viola Saarinen, Noah Winter, and Theo Winter explored these questions during the summer holidays from 20–24 July. They investigated what a government is, who gets to have a say, and how decisions are made. Using artistic methods, they examined how they themselves could make their voices heard.

The group explored the public spaces of the government district, imagining how they might be used differently or redesigned altogether. Throughout the process, they began experimenting with the foundations of a children's government.

Based on the participants' observations and sketches, Graziela Kunsch is developing a publication documenting the project. KinderKunstLabor, together with KOERNOE, will publish this research contribution as part of the Cahiers series. In the next phase, Graziela Kunsch will develop a proposal for a functional public-space intervention designed primarily for children, with the aim of realizing it in the government district in 2027.

A collaboration between KOERNOE and KinderKunstLabor for Contemporary Art, on the occasion of Why Is There Something Rather Than Nothing? and 30 Years of KOERNOE.
