Are world maps a true representation of the world? What did a map look like when people still believed the Earth was flat? And is reading maps something we need to learn?

A playful and reflective approach to cartography invites participants to question culturally shaped systems of order. Mapping is an open form of expression that not only depicts reality but also actively shapes and interprets it. Participants discuss world maps: Who created them, from which perspective, and why? Who draws which boundaries, and where? Inspired by questions about what their own dream world might look like, the children develop their own cartographic designs as shared utopias. Drawing on the artistic work of Pia Moos, the focus is on places of personal significance: a playground, a secret hideout or the way to school – anything can be freely invented, reimagined and put down on paper. Participants paint, draw and create collages.
