Impulses of Brazilian Modernism

What exactly is a performance? With impulses from Eduardo Clark's film The World of Lygia Clark, we reflect on artistic work in a group. What is still interesting today, and why? What can be tried out in a group? With objects and materials without predetermined uses for free exploration, the aim is to experience joint creative activity.

The starting point is Lygia Clark's ensemble of works Máscaras Sensoriais, presented in the exhibition, a milestone in art history, on display in Austria for the first time. The fabric masks are presented on six steles. The masks can only be put on as part of this workshop.

Lygia Clark's working methods provide poetic impulses: a table tennis ball that swings on an air-filled plastic bag; an object that develops its own rhythm through the movement of the hands; surfaces that feel, smell, or sound soft. Such material experiences strengthen early self-efficacy and sensory perception. Every action opens up new possibilities, in a group or alone.
