Die Welt wie sie mir gefällt
The World the Way I Like ItDescription
Are world maps an accurate representation of the world? What did a map look like when people still believed the Earth was flat? And do you have to learn how to read maps?
A playful and reflective approach to cartography challenges culturally shaped systems of classification. Mapping is an open-ended form of expression that not only depicts reality but also actively shapes and interprets it. Participants discuss world maps: Who designed them, from what perspective, and why? Who draws which borders, and where? Inspired by questions about their own ideas of what a dream world might look like, the children develop their own cartographic designs as shared utopias. Drawing on the artistic work of Pia Moos, the focus is on personal spaces of meaning: a playground, a secret hideout, or the way to school—everything can be freely imagined, reimagined, and brought to life on paper. Participants paint, draw, and create collages.
